Regular doctoral scholarship (Internal form)

Students admitted to the internal (full-time) form of doctoral study receive a monthly scholarship in accordance with the Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions and the internal regulations of the University of Žilina. This scholarship is approximately 1300 EUR/month (subject to regular government-based valorization)

This scholarship is fully financed from faculty budget resources and is automatically provided to all full-time doctoral students who are enrolled in doctoral study programs and to those who continually fulfill their study and research obligations.

  • The scholarship serves as the primary financial support covering basic living costs in Slovakia
  • The amount may increase based on academic performance, scientific activity, or faculty decisions
  • In some cases, the scholarship can be supplemented by additional project-based income

External doctoral study (Part-time form)

The external (part-time) form of doctoral study is usually designed for students employed in industry company. Students in this study form do not receive a faculty-based scholarship. External study is subject to a tuition fees, approximately XXXX EUR/year.

External PhD. students have the same academic rights and responsibilities but follow a flexible study schedule adapted to their professional commitments

Project-based doctoral positions (Internal form)

FEIT UNIZA may offer project-funded doctoral positions supported by national and international research grants, including:

These positions are financially supported from budgets of on-going research projects and often include:

  • higher monthly stipends, scholarships and salaries
  • granted funding for conferences, internships, and laboratory work
  • and opportunities for strong international/industrial collaboration

Collaborative doctoral study (Joint internal form)

The international doctoral path is typically established through formal cooperation agreements between FEIT UNIZA and foreign academic partner institutions. Such positions are often fully funded by external grant agencies or bi-lateral research programs, ensuring stable financial support throughout the duration of the study.

This model is developed in co-operation between the doctoral supervisor at FEIT UNIZA and international academic partners, allowing potential candidates to:

  • work under dual institutional supervision
  • benefit from international co-mentorship and regular (agreement-defined) mobility
  • and participate in joint research projects and publications

Depending on the nature of the collaboration, the doctoral student may also obtain a dual or joint degree, recognized by both institutions.

Industry-funded doctoral scholarship (Internal industrial PhD.)

In cooperation with industrial partners, FEIT UNIZA also supports industry-funded doctoral studies, enabling students to work on research topics directly linked to industrial innovation and technology development

Funding can come from:

  • industrial contracts (100%)
  • joint research projects (100%)
  • co-financing agreements between the faculty and the company (50% to 100%)

This form of doctoral study offers:

  • practical research experience, connecting academia and industry
  • direct technology transfer opportunities
  • and often leads to employment with the partner company after graduation

International mobility grants and scholarships

International experience represents an essential component of doctoral education at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT UNIZA).

All doctoral students are required to complete at least one international mobility stay during their studies - a research internship, study visit, or collaborative project conducted at a foreign university, research institute, or industrial partner.
