Ogranization

Doctoral (PhD.) study at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT UNIZA) is organized in accordance with the legislative framework of the Slovak Republic and the internal regulations of the University of Žilina. The structure, rights, and responsibilities of doctoral students, supervisors, and academic bodies follow clearly defined national and institutional standards to ensure high quality, transparency, and academic excellence.

Legal Framework

PhD. studies in Slovakia are governed by the:

  • Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions, as amended, and the related Decrees of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic (MŠVVaM SR)

These documents define:

  • the structure and accreditation of doctoral study programs
  • the conditions for admission and completion of study
  • the status and funding of full-time and part-time doctoral students
  • the organization of supervision, evaluation, and dissertation defense processes
  • and the rights and duties of doctoral students and supervisors

Institutional Framework

At the University of Žilina, doctoral studies are implemented in line with:

  • the Statute of the University of Žilina
  • the Internal Quality Assurance System of UNIZA
  • the Study and Examination Regulations of UNIZA
  • and specific Dean’s Decisions and Guidelines issued by the FEIT UNIZA

Each doctoral study program is accredited within a relevant scientific field and is supervised by a Board of Study Program and a Scientific Council, which ensure the academic and research quality of the program.

Organizational Structure

The organization and administration of PhD. study at FEIT UNIZA include:

  • Dean of the faculty, who oversees doctoral studies at the faculty level
  • Vice-Dean for education, responsible for the co-ordination of doctoral study and individual programs
  • Vice-Dean for science, research and international relations, responsible for the scientific part of the study and program internationalization
  • Study office, which provides administrative support to applicants and enrolled students
  • and the Supervisors and Dissertation Committees, who guide and evaluate the scientific progress of each doctoral candidate

The doctoral program typically includes individual study plans, scientific research, publication activity, pedagogical involvement, and culminates in the defense of the doctoral dissertation before an Evaluation and Defense Committee.

Doctoral supervision at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT UNIZA) is carried out in accordance with the Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions, the Study and Examination Regulations of the University of Žilina, and the Internal Quality Assurance System of UNIZA.
