The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Žilina offers a dynamic environment for students eager to pursue studies in electrical engineering, telecommunications, information technologies, photonics, energy systems, transportation, and modern digital technologies.

Our admissions process is designed to attract talented and motivated students from Slovakia and abroad who are ready to engage in innovative education, cutting-edge research, and close collaboration with industry. Applicants can choose from Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programs, each providing strong theoretical foundations combined with practical experience in laboratories and real-world projects.

Requirements

To apply for the opened PhD. position and doctoral program, candidates are required to:

  • Hold a Master’s (MSc./Ing.) degree in a relevant study field
  • The diploma is provided alongside with an English translation verified by official national/international authority
  • To prove this is mandatory for PhD. application, otherwise, the application is removed from the selection process
  • Demonstrate academic/research excellence and motivation for scientific work in Slovakia

  • Diploma and transcript of records (in English)
  • List of publications or research experience (if available)
  • Recommendation letter(s) (optional, but encouraged)

Process

Admission to doctoral (PhD) study at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT UNIZA) is based on academic excellence, research potential, and motivation to contribute to scientific and technological advancement.

Tentative admission process

 

  1. Publication of the call for applications
    Each year, the faculty announces a public call for PhD. study positions, typically in the summer semester. The call includes a list of accredited study programs, available dissertation topics, potential supervisors, and key deadlines

  2. Selection of research topic and supervisor
    Applicants are encouraged to review the list of available dissertation topics and contact potential supervisors to discuss their research interests, feasibility, and alignment with the faculty’s research activities

  3. Submission of application
    The application form and all required documents (curriculum vitae, diploma, transcript of records, motivation letter, and proof of English proficiency for international applicants) must be submitted by the specified deadline. Applications can usually be submitted electronically through the faculty system or by post

  4. Admission interview / Entrance examination
    Applicants meeting the formal requirements are invited to an admission interview or oral examination. During the interview, candidates present their academic background, research interests, and motivation for doctoral study. The examination committee assesses the candidate’s professional knowledge, research potential, and suitability for the chosen topic

  5. Evaluation and decision
    The faculty admission committee evaluates all candidates based on their academic achievements, the quality of their application materials, the results of the interview, and the availability of supervision and funding. Successful applicants receive an official letter of acceptance

  6. Enrollment and start of study
    Admitted candidates complete the enrollment process before the beginning of the academic year (typically September or October). Upon enrollment, they become full members of the university’s academic community and start their research and coursework under the supervision of their advisor
